Ralation between cation vacancy and persisitent phosphorescence in Ce:GAGG crystals studied by positron annihilation spectroscopy,2019.04 - 2022.03,Ralation between cation vacancy and persisitent phosphorescence in Ce:GAGG crystals studied by positron annihilation spectroscopy
In the present study, positron annihilation lifetime spectroscopy using ultrashort gamma-ray pulses (GiPALS) has revealed the existence of defect pairs of cationic vacancies and oxygen vacancies, which are responsible for the degradation of Ce:GAGG scintillators. It was found that defect complexwes of antisite defects and oxygen vacancies are introduced as charge compensators for the cationic vacancy charges, causing useless long-lived emission in the scintillator. The codoping method was effective in suppressing the defect complexes. Practically, when magnesium was cooped, the cationic vacancies disappeared. The long-lived luminescence and electron trapping centres were also significantly suppressed by magnesium codoping.

We have successfully prepared dense water-dispersion solutions of surface-modified Prussian-blue analog (PBA) nanoparticles (nanoinks) by our original technology. In this study, we have developed an electrochemical water-oxidation (oxygen-evolution-reaction, OER) catalyst electrode system using the PBA nanoparticles composed of Fe, Co, and Ni. In binary metal PBA nanoparticles of Fe and Ni (Fe-Ni PBA NPs), their metal composition ratios are systematically controllable as well as their homogenous distribution. Fe-Ni PBA NPs are directly deposited on a carbon-paper (CP) electrode by a drop-casting method using their nanoinks. The as-deposited Fe-Ni PBA NPs are hydrolyzed to form layered-double-hydroxide (LDH) nanoflakes on the surface of CP in an aqueous alkaline solution of KOH. The Fe-Ni LDH nanoflakes function as one of the highest performing OER catalysts.

Investigation of mitochondrial-derived vesicles in neurodegenerative disease,2016.04 - 2019.03,Investigation of mitochondrial-derived vesicles in neurodegenerative disease
Accumulation of dysfunctional mitochondria due to the impaired quality control system links to multiple human disorders.
We investigated how mitochondria send information to other organelles or receive it from them to change their function and dynamics. In a human neuroblastoma cell line, SH-SY5Y, mitochondrial-derived vesicles (MDVs) are formed in response to interference with iron metabolism. Mitochondria recruit endo-/ lysosomes to sites of budding MDVs; MDVs are then formed from the body of mitochondria. Upon the formation of MDVs, this inter-organelle contacts likely create sites for transfer of mitochondrial materials to endo-/ lysosomes. Interestingly, this event does not require canonical autophagy system. Once this mechanism is disrupted, dysregulation of iron dynamics might be exacerbated by the abnormal iron distribution in a cell and then linked to the pathogenic condition.Japan Society for the Promotion of Science

Pseudo single crystallization of Prussian-blue and its analog nanoparticles via their regular arrangement and low-temperature connection,2015.04 - 2018.03,Pseudo single crystallization of Prussian-blue and its analog nanoparticles via their regular arrangement and low-temperature connection
We have successfully fabricated a water-dispersion solution of Prussian-blue (PB) nanoparticles(NPs) and their mono-particle film on a self-assembly monolayer film via chemical adsorption between interdigitated Au electrodes. The mono-particle film was heated at 120°C to chemically connect the PB NPs into each other. Based on the Bode-plot analyses, the non-heated film showed low proton conductivities in a low-frequency region, while high proton conductivities appeared in a high-frequency region from the low-temperature heated film. The high proton conduction (10-1 Scm-1) of the heated film is superior performance along with a water-retention ability (humidity dependence) in comparison with Nafion films. The proton conduction is derived from the vehicle mechanism in the non-heated films. The proton conduction is transferred into Grotthuss mechanism in the heated films. These results are the first report on a new function as a pseudo single crystalline films composed of NPs.
