Profile
I am a Lecturer at the Course of Law, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, Yamagata University and Invited Lecturer at the Research Centre for ELSI, Osaka University. My main interests are in transplantation, conflict, and harmonisation of legal systems. My main research fields are in Japan (a Civil Law jurisdiction with a transplanted law), and sometimes in the United Kingdom (a Commonwealth-Common law jurisdiction; for a comparison with the Civil law System). Now, I'm committed to research into the Internationalisation of Contract law from a comparative law perspective, with a focus on Mixed Legal Systems. In detail, I discuss harmonisation of law, not only from the perspective of UNIDROIT, but also from a perspective of common law in the Commonwealth (e.g. Cross-jurisdictional references to the case law as a persuasive authority from other Commonwealth common law jurisdictions). I then attempt to apply such principles of UNIDROIT to Japanese Law as transplanted law, using the Mixed Legal System as a buffer. In addition to this, I'm also reconsidering the doctrines and works of Prof. Sakae Wagatsuma who was born in Yamagata (there's Wagatsuma Collection at Yonezawa, Yamagata) from such perspectives. As my other research interests, I am also interested in 'Law and Economics' and Juris-Informatics (which includes 'Crypto Assets and Private Law'). <*Profile photo is at Sidgwick Site, University of Cambridge, Aug 2022; Originally taken by Mark Box, the Editor of `Humans of Cambridge' in Cambridge Edition.>
